Survey Text

On 6/16/2004 Lab Management sent the following survey to faculty who had taught in the computer rooms during Spring 2004.
Computer Lab Management periodically surveys faculty who teach in the
computer classrooms in order to make adjustments and meet customer needs.
We would like your input via this survey to determine any changes or
improvements which are needed to improve our services.

Please answer the following questions by putting an "x" or text, as
appropriate, between the square brackets provided (eg. [x]). Since a
program will automatically tally your responses for later analysis, please
keep your responses between the square brackets provided.

Our records show that you taught a class in one of our computer
classrooms during the last quarter. If you were not the person actually
teaching in the room, please forward this message to that person (such as
a TA). Please take a moment to fill out the survey and try to be as
specific as possible.

Thank you for your time and input.

Survey Interpretation

Overall faculty seem pleased with the service they received from Computer Lab Management.  Every category in question #3 was averaged 4.3 or better in a scale of 1-5.  The most popular improvements identified in question #2 were for more access to our services, not improvements of the service.  Faculty could find a Computer Room Consultant (CRC) when needed and there were several good comments about CRCs.

The major areas identified for improvement in question #2 are increased classroom availability and larger classrooms.  Given the current space constraints it will be difficult to address these.  However, we will be adding another larger computer classroom in the Sciences Lab Building.  Unfortunately it will not be as large as some faculty indicated they wanted.  Of course, other faculty said that they wanted smaller classroom instead.

Question #4 shows we still need to address the issue of students not in the class using the room.  We have been adjusting the signs over time but apparently more is needed.  We believe that the upgrades to Windows XP and Mac OS X this summer will address some of the hardware/software failures.  Those operating systems should be more stable that Windows ME and Mac OS 9.
