computer classrooms in order to make adjustments and meet customer needs.
We would like your input via this survey to determine any changes or
improvements which are needed to improve our services.

Question 3.   Top three areas  where we can improve our services:

• Other - The building evacuation during a comprehensive exam was not good - of course, going up in a conflagration would not have been good either.
• SMALLER ROOMS -- the size of 247 Olson, which is perfect.
• Sometimes unbearably warm. Printer noisy and slow; difficult to carry on class activities or wait until the end of class to print since it took 10+ minutes to print out, for example, one page from each student.
• something other than floppy drives, although perhaps USB memory keys will take care of this as they become more popular

Question 4. Do you have any comments about the rankings above

•  I felt that the room was well equipped and staffed. I had no technical problems at all. Great job.
• Very slow opening of internet sites, very slow opening of files saved within the class folders (241 Olson)
•  everything was fine really

Question 6.   Do you have any additional comments regarding the Computer Room Consultants?

• we only used it for the comprehensive exam for our masters program
• they were always very efficient and very helpful
• Not all are as good--some are excellent and some are mediocre
• they were helpful and I needed them since I had never been to a computer room on campus before
• Overall, great job!

Question 7. What can Lab Management do to make your teaching experience better?

• better equipment, better temperatures in classrooms (241 Olson)
• make sure the rooms open on time, I had an 8 am class and we weren't able to get in right away
• faster equipment, quieter printer (241 Olson)
• maybe provide an overview sheet or FAQ for instructors

Question 8. Do you have any other comments about the computer classrooms.

• 27 Olson is well set up and maintained for teaching classes that require computers. I didn't feel like I needed anything else, or thought things needed any improving.
• they make teaching composition a lot easier. I'm happy they're available
• in general the classrooms provided everything we needed and it was a productive experience!
• Personally, I'd prefer all classrooms to have Power/Ibooks so students can see each other more easily. The large monitors can be more distracting, and they depersonalize the environment to some extent.
• lcd projector was much improved from previous year (1 Olson)

Overall the survey respondents seem to feel that the computer classrooms were well run.  Some faculty wanted faster equipment, and the rooms they were commenting on are scheduled to be upgraded Summer 2004. 

We need to do a better job keeping the temperature consistent in the classrooms.  However since the computer classrooms are dependent on the building HVAC systems it is sometime difficult.

Computer Lab Management is encouraging the use of USB flash drives to replace floppies.  Other possibilities are CD-RW (all CLM computer are equipped with CD-RW drives now) or mySpace.
