Lab Management would like to know how we can improve the quality of service in the computer classrooms. We have used feedback in the past to improve our services, and hope to use your feedback to improve further. Our records show that you taught a class in one of our computer classrooms during the last quarter. If you were not the person actually teaching in the room, please forward this message to that person (such as a TA). Please take a moment to fill out the survey and try to be as specific as possible. The survey contains eleven questions which are listed below. To answer the survey, reply to this message and mark your answers to the questions below by putting an "x" or text, as appropriate, between the square brackets provided (eg. [x]). Since a program will automatically tally your responses for later analysis, please keep your responses between the square brackets provided. There is space for comments at the end of the survey. If you have taught in multiple classrooms, please respond for each classroom separately. For example, if you taught in both 21 Olson and 241 Olson please reply to this email twice, once for each room. This will allow us to match your comments with the specific computer classroom. Thank you for your time and input. Tim Leamy Information Resources ***** Computer Classroom Survey ***** 1. Which computer classroom did you teach in during the last quarter? (Please check only one. Additional Comments
- It seems to work well for the facilities available.
- I tend to plan far ahead in advance so I have not had a problem. I guess you should rely more heavily on instructors that have less time to plan in advance
- The easiest from the instructor's standpoint would be to know in real time what times were open and to be able to confirm a reservation in real time.
- Making the reservation was easy. I don't recall ever seeing a Lab Manager at 307 SurgeIV.
- Making the reservation was easy. The Lab Manager was very helpful.
- it's simple, and Betty Lee is terrific. She has saved my bacon a number of times by reminding me to reserve the lab, since we tend to reserve 1102 Hart a lot. I also appreciate the e-mail that you send out each year letting me know it's ok to reserve for the upcoming year.

- It was fine.
- Not necessary to explain "Class in Session" sign - been there before.
- make sure students not in class leave when the class starts if they were using it as an open lab setting.
- Many times computer labs are too hot
- I don't recall the Room Consultant explaining the "Class in Session" sign; I just flipped it over as necessary.
- At times I believe the instructor before me was running overtime and was rude when I approached him to ask if he was finishing up. I don't recall the Room Consultant explaining the "Class in Session" sign; I just flipped it over as necessary.
Ratings of the physical rooms (1-5, 1 the best)
Cleanliness 1.4 Lighting 1.7 Overhead projector 1.7 Room layout 2.5 Temperature 2.2 Sound 1.8 Additional Comments
- The room works quite well. My only very minor suggestion is with regard to the light switch being far away from the instructor. Sometimes I write on the board and work on the computer. (301A SurgeIV)
- Need to clean papers around printer ocassionally (27 Olson and 1131 Meyer)
- The instructor's computer should face the class so that the instructor can see if any of the students have questions. The room temperature was too warm and I was told the thermostat was not to be changed. There was no concern however with opening the door. This is a bit silly since we were wasting all the heating energy. Also it was not possible on rainy days and was noisier. (301A SurgeIV)
- Room layout: difficult to see all students and their screens from a given location in the room. Perhaps need to face computers all in the same direction. (27 Olson)
- Lab tends to get too warm in the afternoon. New sound absorbing tiles work too well and often it is difficult to hear students questions especially from the back row. (1102 Hart)
- The room felt very cramped and uncomfortable epecially at night when it was raining. It would be nice to have an area to store backpacks and coats. (307 SurgeIV)
- The accoustics in 241 are terrible. Students on one side of the classroom can't hear students on other side. Would be best to have a configuration similar to 247; laptops would especially improve communication between students. 247 can do without laptops but 241 should help minimize distance between students and ability of students to see and interact with each other. (241 Olson)
Ratings of the computers (1-5, 1 the best)
Speed 2.0 Reliability 1.7 Software 1.6 Usability 1.4 Appropriateness for needs 1.6 Additional Comments
- Things have improved greatly! (307 SurgeIV)
- For the needs that I have even though the machines are not top of the line they have worked quite well. I value reliability over performance. Due to the nature of the software that I use this has not been a problem. However I can envision that some faculty might require more resource intensive software for which the actual equipment is probably a little bit obsolete. (301A SurgeIV)
- Director 7 would be nice (1102 Hart)
- New G3's are great! But the way the systems are configured they crash an awful lot. With much of the system resources removed for ease of maintainance and the software used to sign on and restore the systems to their default settings I think the machines are suffering from extension/control panel conflicts or incompatibilities. For example the software used to drive the M.O. devices is very old and is not compatible under OS 8 (as stated from the manufacturer). Items in the Apple Menu are quite messy as well. A better job of organizing this area would help. Software needs to be patched in some cases. I use MiniCAD in my class and the current version in Hart is 6.0.1. There is a patch to up this to version 6.0.4 which solves some program problems. Applications could be better organized and kept in one area as well. Why do some programs live in the "Classes" folder and why is Daedeus just thrown in loose in the root directory. It would be easier for people to find the applications if they were all in one central area each in their own folder with their needed resources with an alias in the Apple Menu (some applications have a presence in the Apple Menu but not all of them). (1102 Hart)

- Did not really deal with them in terms of computers although personally they were nice.
- Lab attendants are great. They're always very helpful and available.
- The site attendant was non-existent.
- Quality uneven. Adrian is excellent
