About the IET Media Lab

The IET Media Lab is the main general access media production computer lab on the UC Davis campus. Located on the second floor of the Student Community Center (SCC), the IET Media Lab provides access to media equipment and software for students, staff and faculty to create their own projects utilizing our scanner, video, audio, and general computer stations.

The IET Media Lab offers three types of scanners:

  • Document Scanners - automatically scans loose sheets of paper through a sheet feeder (up to 50 at a time). Scans can be saved in a variety of formats including PDF, jpg, Word doc and Excel Documents

  • Slide/Negative Scanner - dedicated slide or negative scanner. Can scan from a color or black and white 35mm negative or mounted slides.

Video

On specialized Video Stations, dual monitors are available allowing more room for video timelines, bins and menus. The second monitors are 4K displays with USB-C connectors located on the back of the monitor.

Both entry-level video editing and advanced professional video editing software are available. iMovie is available for beginning video editing. For more advanced users, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects are available.

A group video room is available to enable groups to edit video in a separate room without disturbing or being disturbed by the rest of the IET Media Lab.

A VHS to DVD Recorder is available to transfer old VHS tapes to a DVD-R.

Audio

The IET Media Lab has one audio room with a Mac workstation available for mixing and recording sound. The room contains a microphone, MIDI keyboard, speakers, and analog tape recorder. Software includes Logic Pro X, Garageband and Audacity.

Color Printing

Color printing is available in the IET Media Lab at a cost of $1.00 per page. Color printing is priced per side, meaning a two-sided color printout costs $2. Color printing is billed on a separate account from regular black and white printing

Pen Tablets

Wacom pen tablets are available for checkout for use in our computer rooms. Pen tablets make drawing on the computer much easier. We also have one Wacom pen display which allows your draw directly onto an LCD display.
