quality of service in the computer classrooms.  We have used feedback in
the past to improve our services and facilities, and hope to use your
feedback to improve further.

  Our records show that you taught a class in one of our computer
classrooms during the last quarter. If you were not the person actually
teaching in the room, please forward this message to that person (such as

• Occasionally the printer was out of paper at the start of class. Also for the final exam the computers were just being turned on at 8 a.m. instead of being all ready at 8 a.m. (247 Olson)
• I knew the meaning of the "Class in Session" sign from previous years and I did not seek input from the Computer Room Consultant 
• It would have been nice if people were cleared from the room a little in advance so my students could find work stations. 
• it would be great to have access to dvd/rom for presentations 
• A couple times the room was not opened up for my Friday afternoon workshops in 247 Olson this past quarter

• I use specialized software that only runs on a PC platform and because I have a PC I am able to test and prepare for class on my computer

• The server seemed particularly slow but the software programs worked reliably.  (21 Olson)
• Use of computer classroom was very heavy 4 years ago. I've noticed a marked decrease in the use for "lab" assignments over these 4 years with practically no actual use of the lab this year as 100% of my students had laptops for their computing needs. Through no fault of the Computer Classroom project I have decided that I don't need to use them any more. 
• Maintenance...zip disks keeping getting stuck in several machines. Software upgrades.(1102 Hart)

• They were fine! 
•  I really have not used them very much but when I have asked them a question they have been helpful kind and available. I cannot comment on their knowledge because I really never asked them questions requiring much knowledge 
• No we rarely needed their assistance but they were helpful when we did

•  It varied. I taught four different sections. Some of the consultants were very helpful with the signs asking me what I needed and keeping people out of the room. Others were not helpful at all. They didn't really do anything.

Question 10. Do you have any other comments about the computer classrooms.

• Because I didn't actually teach a class rather held a focus group of high school students I can't fully answer all the questions. However the room and Computer Room Consultant met and exceeded our needs. 
• The most important aspect of my use of the computer classrooms is to have my software correctly installed and running properly. Over the years Tim Leamy has done an outstanding job of always installing my software correctly and making certain everything is working properly. I have nothing but praise for his professionalism and talent. 
• Improve the volume on the video projector. It was too quiet for all to hear. (241 Olson)
• Adjust the volume so that it can be louder on the video projections unit. (247 Olson)
• The layout of 163 Shields is kind of funny for a classroom because some people will always have their back to the board or their back to the projection on the wall. I was very glad there was a projector though. 
• this was a one time class and I did not have any interaction with the consultants

The majority of our instructors have been teaching in the computer classrooms at least 3 years.  However, there was a sizable number of first-time instructors.  The distribution was strange with most either first time or over 3 years.  The distribution in Fall 2001 was roughly simlar.

Question #3 shows we need to work on room preparedness. While the rooms were cleared most of the time, the CRC did not explain the class in session sign very often.  Comments elsewhere indicate that CRCs were inconsistent in this regard. 

Question #4 shows the instructors were almost evenly split between Mac and PC.  Most of them would be willing to teach in a room with their non-preferred platform.

Question #6 shows we still need to work towards reducing class interruptions.  The top priority is to improve computer and software reliability.  This may be difficult give the current state of software.  We need to do a better job clearing out the computer classroom and preventing students from entering a class in session.

The overall computer ratings was very good, all 4.1 or above.

The overall ratings of the CRCs were mostly good.  Their knowledge was rated a little lower at 4.0.  However, the comments and detailed results show that the rating are inconsistent among CRCs.  This may be a training issue.

We are contacting the faculty to determine what changes we can make to address the suggestions from questions #9 and 10.

• We will investigate the audio levels through the Smart Panels.
• Unfortunately we don't believe we can do much with the classroom in 163 Shields.  The pillars make it very difficult to teach in that room.  We hope to find space to develop another computer classroom so we can move classes from 163 Shields.
